Power Supply Issue

I have a rather crazy issue here, and not so sure anyone will have ever seen something like this before. However it is worth a try.

I have a computer I am working on that I used my multimeter to test the power supply, and while the computer was booting up and everything, my multimeter said the computer WASN'T receiving any power (yes it actually said 0 power). I couldn't believe my eyes so I changed batteries on my multimeter, and still didn't get any results. After using the meter on two other machines to make sure my multimeter wasn't faulty, I found my multimeter is OK. Therefore I replaced the power supply in the troublesome computer with two different supplies only to find I am getting the same results. I now come to the conclusion that three power supplies can't be faulty with the same strange problem. I even tried grounding my multimeter on the case of my own computer incase the computer case of the troublesome computer isn't a good grounding point. That didn't make any difference.

The customer did complain of getting a shock from the case. maybe this is related, but I can't find anything out of the ordinary that would explain it, other than a possibility of a problem with the power supply, which is ruled out due to the fact that I have tested it with three power supplies now.

Thanks

Malcolm

Re: Power Supply Issue

Not sure, just thinking that is it possible some how the negitive is going to where the positive shold be?

Also you can try taking all the hardware out of the case and try running it that way, just be careful not to damange anything and not put it on anything that can catch fire or have electricity go through it. But doing that will show you if the case is intereffering with things or not.

If you are going to pay around with all of it outside the case please really think about it and take it seriousely and do it safely, otherwise if your not don't even do it. Also be careful of heat although it wont be as much of a problem without the case to hold it all in.
