Laptop Screen Upgrade - Possible?

Hello to all! What a cool site. I can't believe the wealth of info here!

Well, I just purchased a used Dell Latitude CPt laptop w/ a Celeron 600mhz processor. It came w/ a 12.1" screen. I'm sure it will work fine, but I'm seriously thinking about upgrading if possible. I can pick up a 14.1" screen with all the hardware, cables, casing, bezel on eBay for about $100. My questions are?

It is possible to just swap them screen for screen, just take the whole 12.1" screen & housing off and plug in the 14.1" screen & housing? I am about 98% sure that they will fit, as they are from the same model, just the screen is larger. I am pretty good w/ being very careful and detail oriented in these type of operations, so I an confidant I can do the 'surgery' part.

Will the new larger screen give me the better resolution right away, or will I have to change some drivers/settings for it to work? The 12.1" will support up to 800x600, while the 14.1" should go to 1024x768( I think that's right). Reading the spec sheets from Dell.com, they seem to have the same video card, so I assume that it will support whatever resolution the screen will.

Here's the link to the laptop I got (still waiting for it to show up):

Here's the link to the screen assembly I think will work for it:

I have searched on Dell's forums, and it seems there are some who have had success w/ this, just looking for some other opinions/ideas on what I should prepare myself for if I decide to go for the upgrade.

Any suggestions/tips/procedures will be very appreciated!

Thanks,

Seattle Sage

Possible Solution

Well, I may have solved my own problem. I asked around and found some other folks who had done this upgrade with successful results. Also, I found the service manual from Dell on this series of notebooks and it appears to be a very simple procedure to swap the monitors. I think I am going to try it, and I'll let you know if it works or if I encounter any problems. Wish me luck!
