D-Link DI524 Poor range
I have bought a D-Link DI 524 wireless router, a DWL-G510 adapter for my second PC (not yet bought) and a DWL G630 card for my wife's laptop.
With the router on top of the PC the laptop could communicate reliably up to about 25 feet away. At 50 feet there was no communication. The laptop signal strength and quality were about 95/95 at 25 feet and 88/77 at 50 feet. Of course, the indicators were fluctuating widely. I tried putting the DWL - G510 card in the PC, put the laptop on top, and wandered around with the router on a long extension cord. The PC signal strength and quality were comperable to the laptop. These observatoins and readings were taken in a house under construction. The walls are studded, but only one small section of drywall I am bothered by the fact that the router "Status" LED is always OFF except for a brief flash when it boots. Technical support tells me that 25 ft range is quite acceptable, and the status light not flashing is normal for this model. Is this pathetic performance really normal? |
