USB drive in Win XP

Here's the problem ... I'm running Win XP. I had a USB hard drive plugged in and working fine. I plugged in a USB memory stick which apparently had some type of drive letter conflict with the USB hard drive and the memory stick would not show up. So I unplugged the memory stick just to make sure the original configuration still worked. Now when I try to access the USB hard drive, I get a message that the disk is not formatted and it ask if I want to format. I've done nothing that could have wiped the drive, so is there something to check with how Windows is recognizing the drive? Thanks.

This might help, not too sure

Hey there

well first connect the usb hard drive
1) right click my computer
2) click hardware
3) device manager
4) click the plus sign next to disk drives (do u see anything besides ur
internal hd?
5) if it is then right click the external hard drive
6) click scan for hardware changes.
