[SOLVED] Totally dumb DVD+RW question

Hi everyone,

I feel like a total dorkzilla asking this because I'm sure it's something dumb but I honestly don't know what's wrong.

I have a pretty low-key laptop, a Dell Inspiron B130. Back when I got it, I upgraded the crappy DVD/CD+RW it comes with so that I could burn DVD's of data and get more on a single disk. Looks like the model is the following:

TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D

So I went out and got some DVD R's. But I couldn't copy anything to them. I can't remember what I got, this was a while ago. Today, I went to Best Buy and left with some DVD+R's. Still no luck.

I stick the thing in, it spins, I try to copy stuff to E:\, it complains.

Here's the line item from my order:

Combo/DVD+RW Drives 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
[313-3793]
[420-5111]

Anyway, what the heck? Seems like this should be a no brainer but it's not working.

Any clues would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth, and welcome to TSF!

You might have to format the DVD. Did you just try to copy files or use a burning program? If you just tried to copy files, try a burning program like DeepBurner:

Can you give a link to the drive you bought?

Re: Totally dumb DVD+RW question

Hi there! Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it.

I don't have a link to the drive, it came with the laptop. That's why I included things like the make and model and the line item from my order.

Nope, I haven't tried a burner! I honestly figured I could just drag & drop because that's what I can do with CDs. I thought that something would start up automatically, but didn't. doh!

I'll look into that first thing. thanks!

Re: Totally dumb DVD+RW question

XP does not have native DVD burning capability . . you need to install DVD Burning software. Nero is a good one, but you can find free ones if you want.
