Laptop parts replacement

Hi!

I have Mitac M722 laptop with some broken parts. I have lost XGA LCD screen, and I want to replace it. Can I use some other screen? I would like to use for example SVGA screen which is less expensive. Is it possible?
My screen is TM121XG-02L02. Are there any good materials about screen replacement in the Internet?

Also i have broken media bay for CD. Can I replace it with dell,toshiba,... media bay? I'm not able to find Mitac :(

Thank You for any help,
Kamil

Laptops have proprietary parts, so I don't recommend using another brand's LCD screen in your laptop. You could try and find the part on Ebay, but there is no guaranty that the part you are purchasing works (buyer beware). And it's not easy to fix for an inexperienced person because many of the parts are not interchangable like a desktop.

You could contact Mitac Support for a service person to fix it.

In my opinion, laptop repairs tends to be pricey because the parts are proprietary and can be hard to come by. The repair to your laptop could cost equivalent to a low-end new laptop...

If it's under warranty, contact Mitac and see if they will repair it for you.

Just my two cents, for what it's worth.

savage repair

Hi!

My laptop is old,and buying brand parts is more expensive than my laptop is worthy. I would like to try replacing parts witch cheep ones. If I destroy laptop at all I won't lose much. If I repair it I will be happy :) Do You know something about such repairs (including soldering, exchanging plugs, etc.)

One way I can see is to use external LCD monitor, and carry it ewerywhere with laptop, but it would be better if it will be inside ;)

What about CD bay? I'm not able to find any documentations. Perhaps someon tried to use other CD bay (pocket) in mitac M722? USB pocket is not good because BIOS is not able to boot CD's in such pocket.

Regards
Kamil

An old laptop is almost worthless, you'd be far better off in both price and performance buying even a low-end new laptop. Repairs like you describe for a laptop will far exceed the value of the machine.
