ddu1621 drive shows up (intermittently)

I have two computers, I was having a problem with the Sony DDU1621 so I switched to see if it was the computer or the DDU1621. It was not the computer. Now, It shows up as my "D" drive but it will not recognize a CD or DVD. I have shut down, disconnected it, restarted, shut down connected it restarted. and windows recognized it saying it found new hardware DDU1621. but it does not recognize it every time. Sometimes its not listed when I do explore. Even when its listed, it will not show that there is a cd in it and asks me to insert a CD If I ask for explore. Not sure what to do. I'm using Winxp home. Ive downloaded drivers but not much good if Its not listed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. My Sony DVD-Rom DDU1621 is not recognise now and so is my Lite-On LTR 482475. Both are being detected but in the device manager, it just shows that the devices are having conflict(yellow exclamation mark).

Anyone, please assist.

The problem seems to surface after the XP service pack 3 installation. But I am not very sure.
