Monitor problem
Welp, we got this computer from a friend and it wasn't working at first so we re-installed everything and everything seemed to be working fine. THe only problem was when we tried to play the game WoW, it said there was a error and no display found... at that point the monitor was on and running. But we decided to check the video card and whatnot tomake sure everything was fine so we turned it off and rebooted it. When we rebooted it, we got RGB No signal found, and the monitor now shuts off right after that...what could be wrong? we even tried a working monitor on that same computer and got the same thing.

Re: Monitor problem
Hi and welcome to TSF
![]() My first question is is this a onboard graphics card or is it a pci-e/pci card? Like do you connect it to a pci card or through the system board? Just answering this question I will know what you have to do with this problem. |

Re: Monitor problem
Okay, now I would like you to go to the BIOS and I would like you to tell me your temperatures and voltages. To access the BIOS keep tapping the Delete key and if this does not work check your system manual for opening it. I would like you to tell me the voltages and the temps. Please post back! This will tell if it is the motherboard or the Power Supply Unit (PSU) that has failed.
Hoping for the best!!

Re: Monitor problem
You would keep tapping the "Delete" key and it should open it up. If this key does not work you could try the F1, F2, F8, F11, or F12 keys. One of those should get you into the BIOS. Then look for something like Hardware Monitoring or something to that effect

Re: Monitor problem
so press the delete key and we should get something even if the monitor isn't working and it's completely black?
it pretty much goes from on *green* to hibernate or shutdown *orange* Last edited by nightspiritwing; 08-24-2007 at 09:57 PM. |

Re: Monitor problem
Oh my God I am so sorry. I am not thinking right at all (it must be because it is so late at night; I don't usually work this late). Since we cant get a picture in I would usually use a multimeter but since I am not on job there I can not do this so its a 50/50 chance. It could be your PSU or it could be your motherboard. I say its a motherboard problem. You should replace the motherboard and if you still do not get a signal replace the PSU. I am sorry that we can not perfectly isolate the issue but atliest we isolated 2 components. First replace the motherboard and if it still dosen't work replace the PSU.

Re: Monitor problem
ok now my next question is...we are paying 450 for this computer just the tower no screen *just borrowing the screen* you think it's worth replacing the mother board for?which is another 100-ormore* or would it be more cost efficient just returning thiers and buying a new computer?

Re: Monitor problem
unfortunatly I dont have any imformation on it...no stats or anything
a good place to get a vid card would be? :) just in case...what we probaly will end up doing is buying a motherboard and taking that out of the initial price they wanted on the computer itself |

Re: Monitor problem
Seems like a good thing to do and also a great great company for graphics cards are nVidia!! They are the best around and they compete with the other highest ATI graphics cards from AMD Processors. You should buy an nVidia Card (you can usually find them at Best Buy, Circuit City, and I really don't know but maybe WalMart).
