Garbage or Good?

I am in greed phase. I have lovely Acer 17" LCD I got from Tiger, basic, nice, not one dead pixel...after rebate, $100. but,OK, I would like biggah and just got their latest sales thingy.

This, below, would fit in my LCD space.....V important issue 4 me. But I nevah heard of this brand.

DCLCD by Sceptre DCL20A 20.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 5ms, 1000:1, WSXGA+ 1680x1050, DVI with HDCP, VGA(D-sub), Built-In Spe.

Any opinions on this?

It is 199 on Newegg and it got 71% good reviews and there R a gazillion of them.....which means the stats mean sumthin.

It doesn't come with the digitla cable.....I nevah had one, my LCD is my first one and doesn't have that option.

I might do this. Or not......I think most of these mass produced screens now r pretty much the same and mostly made by one person in a basement in China.

I also think the dead pixel issue is the luck of the drawer.

I dunno.....but this is a known brand, apparently, and my experience with Tiger is if u comply carefully, U get the rebate practically the next day. Unlike some places.....where whole thing is scam.

Hi! Same brand? Anyhow....2 late, it's on the way. U either go 4 it or U don't. I did......and this time I called and got it over phone....I asked him couple of questions, also found out i have no dvi port.....big deal....I will hook it up the usual way.

With shipping, after rebate, $150. Wide screen, 20.1.

Tiger whole new place than coupla years ago..... sometimes beats Newegg now.....again, it's still 199+shipping there.

I told him, one dead pixel I am on plane to Fla with Uzi.

I am excited. Any detractors now bite yr tongues. Kidding.

Now I gotta print out my rebate forms.

Update re dvi:

I clearly recall reading, when I was delving into the the available specs for the Optiplex GX620s, that my new machine can run several monitors simultaneously. I just found this:

I now C that the adapter is a sham and U need to meddle wit/change yr videocard to get this white port & option 4 digital.....the Tiger guy said it is white.

I ain't goin theah......having digitial in this for me, no biggie......I just saved myself lots of misery.

My current Acer isn't connected digitally, obviously and is is sharp and clear and lovely.

I downloaded MARCH OF THE PENGUINS (LUV)....and it is so sharp and pristine.....just like on the big screen. Penguins do not need dvi and neither do I.

Hello from My Alien lappy.

Am on this 4 another thread, but OMG....for first time, I looked and noticed.....I think this puppy has an dvi port!!!!!

Gilbert from Tiger Direct....who once lied to me a while badck but I forgave him....said this thihg is white. He did not say it is round! that was bad of him, OK?

Course why would I want on eon this lappy? Whole thihg weighs 4 Lbs and is little....my new LCD is giant.... But I now C wut they look like!

The PORTS.

Again, this really is the best puter I evah found inn the garbage....whole investment 2 put perfect around $140 4 new KB and adapter. Almost new it was and new=$1,800

It has a PORT! Why???? We do not know. But I gotta look at my Optiplex again....nobody told me this is ROUND.

I am back on new desktop. I really amuse myself sometimes.....re my blind faith in Universe and magic.

I went down on floor and again looked at the expansion slot section of the tower......excpecting, as if my magic.....2 find a little white , ROUND, i NOW GET...port.

Which was no way there yesterday.

And.....it is STILL NOT THERE! Imagine that!

Yawn-making diary entry attached (the dvi port on my new deskto still has not appeared sponteneously

I am thinking....I should open case, locate the slot with the vid card & then just just drill 3/8 hole in the outer brace....it might let the dvi port get BORN. I have V strange sense of humor and visulalizations, but they r so fun....BUTU gotta B little nuts.)

Thingy right across the rivah onm NJ! that was immediate, right?.....must have shipped from Mfg cause not from Fla where Tiger Direct lives.

I am sending out pixel perfecting energy, due West.

attached. I have lots of puters but zero dvi ports. Round white port on Alien, the right most one in the pic... is an S -videoTV thingy. No biggie and i have learned. I got all the ports I need, thank U v much.

Arrived. No dead pixels. Still some confusion r all the adjustments, right now, little 2 brite and color not perfect 4 me & I need 2 get used to wide screen cause it is new 4 me.
I left the speaker unhooked, I lke my altecs. Highest reslutin I evah had, I also uped the dpis.

All in all, no way garbage and pretty amazing value.

Tiger gettin betta & betta.

this screen has options my lovely Acer does not....all V simple. I adjusted contrast, briteness, color. ,,,,not arrived at perfect yet, but will. Attached. And this hookup is via VGa port, not dvi....pretty amazing.

This is real bargain.....I think offer good until end of this month case anyone is interested......again $155 after rebate....not 150. It is also Vista compliant.

I remembah these even on my old VGA but left alone and no way like this. This Spectre screen much more complex than my Acer, and the manual assumes U know things.Thank U.

This from High End member of the Design team here (bless Him):

Color temps.... the default setting is nearly always the one to go for as it's calibrated for general home use. The temperature setting allows the white point to be made warmer or cooler, meaning the screen will take on a slightly blue or red tinge, blue for cooler temps, red for warmer temps. It's mainly used on older monitors which need to be corrected and recalibrated to suit the ambient light of the room or for testing purposes. In other words, leave this setting on default.

Addendum veering intO DESIGN/SOFTWARE.

Because of the dimensions & resolution of this new screen, my fav wallpaper no longer worked.

Way back found a pic in PEOPLE Mag. Cut it, scanned it, had to cut Koala head top off when I made it into wallpaper using PAINT.....cause there was giant WRITING there.

Original wallpaper orked on my Acer screen, where top Koala was flush with top of screen but no longer worked on this new one. Could have just raised the image, but it was time to fix the Koala right.

So I had to give the left Koala a new head top and fur. which I did. PAINT....FREE WITH every version of windows, not $600....HAS EVERY SINGLE TOOL u NEED AND NONE u DO NOT.
Can work pixel by pixel at 800% if U want!

It ain't about the brush. Or else I could not have made my orchid papers from scratch from my head... using only PAINT....INCLUDING CURRENT AVATAR.
Or fixed the Koala.

I luv PAINT. U do the handwork, the software does not do it 4 U.

Attached visuals in case it might interest someone....I find it fascinating and about simple versus hostage to complex.....I try to keep the tools simple.

Original scanned pic would ot upload as I had apparently done that long ago in some other thread.

But the issue....is software and keeping it lean and clean and simple.

U should not see THE TECHNOLOGY, U should only see the art. Same deal in film or music.
