Question Buying Speakers

I am looking for new speakers. I found a couple of them within my budget but I am not sure what specifications I should be looking for while buying them.

I am guessing that the power in Watts would be important, but how many watts should there be?

Thanks

Hi, and welcome to TechSupportForum.

If you can can you send me a link to the speakers that you found if they are online or can you give me their name so I can look them up?

Re: Buying Speakers

I'm not sure about which models I had seen except creative's system. SBS 370 or 380.

How are speakers from creative?

Could you recommend some good brands? Also, if you mention the amount of power required in Watts, that would be good.

One last question, what does PMPO mean?

Re: Buying Speakers

1. Creative speakers are very good, I have worked on some houses and they had those speakers. The sound came through very well on their system. I would recommend this brand besides for Realtek.

2. The 2 main brands I would recommend are Realtek and Creative (I run Realtek in my house, a modest set up). Also watts mean I'm guessing how loud the speakers go in Watts. Like 20,000 Watts would be very very loud.

3. PMPO- stands for "Peak Music Power Output" or "Peak Momentary Power Output". Notice the word peak. The vendor of the product calculates PMPO based on the maximum power output of the device under perfect conditions and 100% efficiency. These conditions are impossible to obtain, and no device can sustain the PMPO power for any significant length of time without being ruined. The PMPO power relies on the fact that amplifiers can provide short bursts (basically on the order of milliseconds) of very high power. Over time, these short bursts when averaged with the lower output powers, gives the real value.

*I'm not really sure what it means but that was the information I dug up on it, lol*

Re: Buying Speakers

I dont think RealTek speakers were there in that shop. I think I'll go with the creative ones then.

What about the power... how many watts should each of the satellite speakers have?
Is 6 watts per speaker enough?

Re: Buying Speakers

Yes this seems like enough power for home entertainment.

Re: Buying Speakers

Are you looking for some "basic speakers" such as 2.1 or do you want surround sound (5.1)?

And how much is your budget?

I used to have the Logitech X-230 speakers which cost me about $35. They were great, but I decided that I wanted surround sound and decided to upgrade to Logitech X-540 speakers for $30 After Rebate (unfortunately, that sale ended a couple of weeks ago).

The Logitech X-230 speakers are very popular and have high ratings:

You can check ratings here:

This is a decent price:

I am looking for a 2.1 system since my budget is pretty low.

I live in Kuwait, so the prices are very different from what they are where you stay.

Thanks.

Re: Buying Speakers

My system is an old 5.1 logitech system. 100 bucks when i bought them 2 years ago. X-530. 540 previously referenced should eb the same, cosmetics are changed a little but....

I can crank the system all the way up to absolute maximum with fader set to 50/50, open up my bedroom window, and walk 100 feet from the house and still hear them.

Re: Buying Speakers

it's 7.4 for the satelites, 15.5 or something like that for center, and the difference off 70 is bass.
