General Hardware Price Question

I know there is a price drop on intel processors later this month, but I was wondering, if there was a pattern to when price drops occur.

I read that the GeForce 8800 Ultra was released in May for around $800, and now in July it is already down from $800 to around $600. Is it safe to assume that prices for most PC components steadily decrease all year long?

I'm just trying to figure out the economics behind it all.

Re: General Hardware Price Question

Do prices continually drop throughout the year though?

Re: General Hardware Price Question

Ok cool, thanks.

Knowing my luck, the components of the PC I plan to build won't go down at all, lol.

Re: General Hardware Price Question

Prices go down for a number of reasons:

-Planned obsolescence
-Advances in construction technology
-Increase in supply/drop in demand
-Competition wars

So, I can safely assume that by Jan/Feb of next year, prices for newer components out now will go down (like the overpriced 8800 Ultra)?

I've seen the 8800GTS for about $250. Plenty of power for chump change. My old 6800 cost me $323 new!
