Re: Dell Vs Other comp!
Hello,
My name is Mike, I’m a Technical Analyst located at Dell corporate headquarters in Round Rock, TX. I’m part of an internet outreach team developed to interact with the online community regarding technical questions and issues that customers face with Dell products. I’ve read your question, but need a little more information about what you’re trying to find out. I understand that the “other” computer is faster, but faster at what? Boot time, application access, saving data, opening web pages, etc... From the looks of your post you are running single core processors, AMD vs. Intel, but this still isn’t a lot to go off of. When comparing two systems you have to take into consideration the use of each system, what programs are on it, how often each is used (I.e. take spyware and adware into consideration. The more maleware a system has the slower it runs), what the speed and architecture of the hard drive is (I.e. 5400 RPM IDE drive vs. 7200 RPM SATA), what type and speed of memory you’re running (I.e. PC2100 DRAM vs. PC3200 dual channel DDR or 533MHz vs. 800MHz), the bus speed on the motherboards (I.e. 400MHz FSB vs. 1024MHz FSB), all the way down to how often you clean the systems (built up dust can lead to heat which degrades performance), the physical location of each system (the hotter the environment the slower the machine), and even the connection type on the network can affect speed. All of the above is still not all that you need to consider, so the question is what do you need the system to do? If it’s used for gaming then you might want to focus on the video card, system memory, and monitor. If you’re looking more towards just surfing online make sure you run regular spyware and adware scans as well as keeping your virus protection up to date. I’d be happy to help in whatever way I can so if you can answer some of these questions I should be able to give you some pointers on speeding up the system or at least clarify why one seems faster then the other. Thank you, Mike Dell customer advocate |
