Building A PC

A pal of mine is planning to build a desktop. I was wondering if anyone knew of any great sites for info on how to do this? I know there are lots of great sites out there and was hoping someone could tell me their favorites. My friend isn't exactly computer-savvy (I am a little bit, but I'm more in the programming side than the hardware side).

Thanks

Re: Building A PC

You just found it

Peruse or use the search function and you'll find many sources on building a PC from scratch. It's very easy, just selecting components and being careful when physically installing the hardware is all it takes.

What do you need to know?

Re: Building A PC

I'm sorry, the article you were linked to is in a staff only section do to some of the changes are site is currently going through.

Here's the thread originally posted by Kalim:

How To Build your Own PC: Simple Guides w/photo's

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those who want to build a PC, you can be fairly worried even when knowing the basics that you may get something wrong, some confusion thats tricked your mind until the crunch and the task is ever-so daunting in all other respects for a beginner.

Here is a collection of online or downloadable guides that explain very well, precisely and clearly what is needed; step-by-step a walk through. You only ever require any one of them and you may choose whichever one suits you best. There isn't much to it after this, and you can be your own "techy" from on ... as long as you keep visiting this site
I will stick my personal rating next to them measured on all respects and as per the feedback I received from test beginners.
1 being the worst and 10 being the best.

First in general about computers this 177 page guide to technical information about computer components, Windows, hardware, software, downloads, security, errors etc is excellent:
Computer Companion PDF: 2.13MB - 10/10

How to build your own PC: Guides

ZIP of a PDF: 22MB - 10/10

PDF: 2.8MB - 9/10

PDF: 263KB - 8/10

http://tomshardware.co.uk/2002/09/04..._pc/index.html - 7/10

Another: online guide - 6/10

NOTE: For a PDF to download, right-click the link and choose "Save-As" or "Save Link As" for the download to begin.

If you are stuck with anything, then please post in the relevant Hardware Support section on the forum and someone will assist you soon.

Enjoy

Re: Building A PC

Ok, with money not being an issue, what should be bought to make the most powerful gaming rig currently?
