Monitor for new PC
Hi I'm currently buying a new computer and im wondering what kind of monitor/monitors i should get. I wanna get a dual display, because i will be recording music and wanna use more then one program at a time and see them both, but i will also be gaming alot. Should i get 2 LCDs or 2 CRTs. Is there anythign wrong with CRTs. Im kindof on a budget, or should i just get a big 22" LCD?

Re: Monitor for new PC
Hi, welcome to TSF
What kind of money are you looking to spend? If you're going to be multitasking, then definitely go for 2 monitors. I have 2 19"s, one of them widescreen, and can't imagine going back to just one monitor. CRTs are better for image/video editing because of the colour stability, but LCDs are cheaper and take up less space. For gaming, make sure the LCD response time is 8ms or less to prevent screen-tearing. What graphics card and PSU will you be buying?

Re: Monitor for new PC
Hi, the video card im getting is a RadeonX1950XT as for the PSU im not sure, my friends brother is buying the parts for me from his supplier cuz he has his own business. Im guessing it would be good enough as he knows what he is doing. Im kind of on a budget, at futureshop, i dont know if you have that in the UK (im in canada) the have some 17' LCDs for around 160 each http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10078548&catid=22333&logon=&langid=EN
theyre on sale now, but futureshop ALWAYS has sales. i already have a monitor right now, so im alright for a bit, but its my brothers so... ill eventualy need to get my own... maybe get one 19" now and next paycheck another? |

Re: Monitor for new PC
If you're doing music editing in something like Cubase or SoundForge, a 19" monitor would be better than a 17", giving you more room for the popup windows and menus.
Make sure your friend has your full system specs, including the new graphics card, so he can give you a powerful enough PSU.
