USB Peripherals Not Responding After Bootup [RESOLVED]

EDIT: Okay so when I tried the ps/2 mice/keyboard, i did it without restarting, and they didnt work, i restarted just now and they are responding and they are working after bootup.. I would delete this thread but I dont have the option lol

So I found this thread talking about how you can speed up the responce time of your mouse by just changing a string of code with a hex editor in a file called 'usbport.sys'. The instructions told you to find the file in
C:\\WINDOWS\system32\drivers, and to make a backup file of it. This is where I believe I went wrong, as I made the backup, and changed the string of code in the original file. It appears I was suppose to actually make the changes in the BACKUP file, and keep the original the same..

So the next step was to go into safemode, and copy and paste the edited file (backup one) into 2 folders, 'drivers', and a hidden folder called dllcache in the system32 folder. Well at this point, before shuttin down the comp, my mouse and keyboard are working fine. Then I restart the comp, as it loads, the lights on my mouse and keyboard are flashing (wired, not battery), and I am able to use f8 to get into safemode.

Right before the password window pops up, the lights die on my mouse and keyboard, and I am unable to do anything but to shut the comp down.. I have tried both USB and PS/2 mice/keyboards, and they all react the same way.

Now my question is: Is there anyway to access that one file that I edited on the C:\\ drive? Is it possible to somehow hook it up to another computer to access it? I am not that computer smart when it comes to harddrives.. What can I do?

Btw, the thread I was talking about is found here: http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=351511
It appears to work fine for everyone else, I think the problem for me was that I didn't completely understand that one backup file step.

Thanks a lot guys.
