Well I have done everything I can possibly imagine. I have updated drivers/firmware, uninstalled/reinstalled, used older drivers that I could find, etc. The DVD rom used to work until about 3 months ago and it has been an ongoing issue since, I have resorted to buying an external for now but I wish to fix this issue. I'll start off by giving system specs:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name CHRINOSIS System Manufacturer Sony Corporation System Model VGN-SZ110 System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1833 Mhz Processor x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1833 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies LTD R0083N0, 7/10/2006 SMBIOS Version 2.31 Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32 Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1 Locale United States Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)" User Name CHRINOSIS\Brandon Time Zone Hawaiian Standard Time Total Physical Memory 2,048.00 MB Available Physical Memory 1.41 GB Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB Page File Space 3.85 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys And here is the DVD rom info Drive E: Description CD-ROM Drive Media Loaded No Media Type CD-ROM Name MATSHITA UJ-842D Manufacturer (Standard CD-ROM drives) Status OK Transfer Rate Not Available SCSI Target ID 0 PNP Device ID IDE\CDROMMATSHITA_UJ-842D________________________1.01____\5&1D82C82E&0&0.0.0 Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys (5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), 48.38 KB (49,536 bytes), 8/23/2001 2:00 AM) Note that is says CD-ROM no idea why it says that when its a DVD drive, I have played DVDs and DVD games on it and specifically bought a decoder for it to watch the movies. This issue started about 4 months ago and I tried to fix it then as well but got frusterated. I have updated everything I could think of including the BIOS and also tried older drivers. I have no conflicts with hardware or internal settings such as IRQ's, I/O's, and DMA's. I simply can not figure out why it won't run any DVD game I try. I checked the region and it is set to Region 1, so I am also good there. Please help me if you can, thanks. |

Re: DVD/CD Rom wont run DVD games but runs CD games
- Try going to the DVD drive manufacturer's website and look for a newer firmware version. Flash the firmware to the new version and reboot. This is different than a driver.
- Try going into the properties of the drive and making sure nothing is disabled. - As a last resort you could do a system restore or reformat. This should fix the problem if the forementioned fixes don't help and the actual hardware is okay.

Re: DVD/CD Rom wont run DVD games but runs CD games
As I have said before I tried all the updated and checked everything, a system restore is a last resort as I am not currently near my backup disks and wont be for another month.
