(resolved)Firewire

Hi. I just bought a digital camcorder that uses Firewire (IEEE-1394) to connect to the computer only to realize how stupid I am since my computer has no Firewire ports. So, how do I get one?

Should I buy a firewire pci card and install it or is there another way to do it like with a hub or something?

Thanks.

Re: Firewire

Hi,

You could always get something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815104236

Just remember that it won't work with a laptop.

ah kk. Are you sure if that's the best buy? I need just 1 firewire port as cheap as possible(I already have 4 unused usb ports). Would something like this be better suited to my needs? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124032

Well I'm really low on money here and really want to spend only around $ on the card itself. I'll wait untill TheMatt or another monderator replies and if they say the same I will go with TheMatt's suggestion.

edit: This one looks dandy too and I'd buy it over the last one I posted: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815265002

Oh an lastly, does the "a" after 1394 mean anything?\\grrr... i actually don't need the cable I got one already >_<

Can anyone please just link me to a good buy with just the card/driver cd or w/e >_<

Re: Firewire

Go with the one you posted here.

Basically, IEEE 1394a is the fancy technical name for Firewire.

Re: (resolved)Firewire

Just got it from the mail and it took 3 minutes to install. Works beautifully. I recommend it to anyone who needs a firewire port =]
