PC frying Ipod
I have a buddy who's Ipod recently got fried (screen wouldn't turn on). He sent it away and they just ended up giving him a new 80gb Ipod Video. He took it out of the box and plugged it into his brand new custom computer. Waited.... screen wouldn't turn on... waited the evening, nothing. Apple has told him his computer is too powerful. Is that even possible or is Apple yanking his chain? I feel overpowered is a little to revealing for Apple, they're a big corporation they should build these things to restrict too much power but I I don't believe it is seeing as it is only 600w. Any thoughts?

Re: PC frying Ipod
I think Apple is full of it. Check the back of the IPOD. As an example an ipod shuffle is rated at 5-30 volts, max 1 amp. USB only supplies 5 volts, max 500 milliamps. The wattage of the power supply is irrelevant

That's funny. Thanks for that info. I let him know and he's going to try and get yet another new one and see what happens. Good Ol' apple.

Re: PC frying Ipod
My pc fried my ipod... Check the USB cables.. I found that i had connected two live plugs into one usb and it had 15v running through it.... But luckily my PSU had a failsafe and switched off before any permanent damage was done... The only probem with my ipod is that the battery no longer keeps its charge.

O RLY? With as large a company as apple is you think they'd make their products with a fail safe.

Re: PC frying Ipod
Does your friends pc have a firewire port.. If he does the ipod should of come with a charger. At on end of the charger lead it plugs into the ipod and the other end has a firewire plug you can use that to connect to the pc
