Random Lockups
Hey, not sure if i'm posting this in the right section but feel free to move it as you see fit.
Just put together a computer for my brother. He just wanted something to use in his room as a media centre pc with his 32" lcd tv. I used some extra parts we had laying around the house and ordered anything else we needed to use. System works great, decent wireless everything we wanted! Except the system freezes and locks up showing a screen similar to this: http://turducken2006.com/downloads/forum%20pics/DSC02120.JPG Now I would assume that it is a videocard issue, and since the video is onboard that would make the motherboard faulty. Thing is, the motherboard was RMA'd a few weeks ago and we just received it back from the manufacturer. This is the first time we've tried it, but I hoped that the manufacturer actually fixed it when they had it. Can't remember why we RAM'd it but don't think it was for this type of problem. Any ideas? Heres the parts used: OS: Windows Vista Ultimate Motherboard: Biostar Geforce6100-M9 Socket 939 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Socket 939 PSU: 450w Generic (Also tried 350W Enermax and had same issues) Case: Coolermaster Elite RC-330 RAM: Corsair Value Select PC3200 1GB 2X512MB DDR400 Dual Channel Memory Kit HD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB SATA2 Hard Drive (With jumper removed for full 3gb/s operation) PCI Card: MSI PC60G Wireless 2.4GHZ PCI Adapter DVD Drive: LG GSA-H50N DVD+RW |

Re: Random Lockups
I've tried it on two different monitors, the lcd tv and a crt monitor. Going to test out with a video card soon. will post back when I have
P.S. tried one stick of ram... same problem going to replace psu with another I have lying around that I know runs properly... 420w should be fine generic as well. Worst case scenario I'll put my psu into it to test it... OCZ GameXStream 600w that will tell me for sure if its the psu. |

Re: Random Lockups
Unlikely, but it could even be a driver issue. Try running in safe mode for a while and see if it still happens, if it doesn't then we know what the issue is. Are you able to download SensorView Pro and report to us the reading of the temperatures?

Re: Random Lockups
i cannot see an onboard video chip supporting the frequency required if it is widescreen 1360x768 and you will need to install a card
also a quality 550w+ psu check the frequency supported by the chip
