Keys display wrong characters.

I'm repairing a Compaq Armada E 500 on which certain keys display the wrong characters, happily its the same wrong characters for the same key each time, any suggestions?

I'm assuming you have already compared the layout of the keys on the keyboard to a one which works?

Normally all you can do is replace the keyboard. Ebay is a good source for laptop parts.

check the keyboard is set to usa settings

I assume you're using XP from the settings, so try this : start-->control panel-->Regional and Language settings --> Languages --> details..

I say to check this because the computer keyboard might be defaulting to Dvorak or some other wierd configuration. Just set it back to normal and restart it and hope for the best.
