Viewsonic 19" CRT

My monitor is making a high pitch sound constantly, making my son go crazy as he sits across the room and can hear it as it is coming out of the side. I tried degauss, it seemed to work for a short while but is back to the high pitch noise again. Its not that old, mayb 2-2 1/2 yrs. Anyone have any suggestions other than purchasing a new one? I am not having any other trouble with it other than this high pitch noise.

Try different refresh rates. If this does not help, sounds like something on the high voltage side going out. Unless it is a really nice monitor, I would plan on replacing it soon.

you haven' placed any speakers alongside of it recently

Theres 1 speaker to the right of it, its been there for as long as I owned the monitor and been there for previous monitors. I changed the refersh rate from optimal to 60Hz, I will see how it works.

EDIT
I dont like the way the pages close with the refersh rate at 60Hz
