Multiple USB Cables in Series

Hi

Using 2 or 3 (5 metre) USB cables in series to connect to a USB wifi adaptor located in another room. Works perfectly on old systems with USB1 but not on later systems with USB2. With USB2 if I use more than one cable it will not find the adaptor. With USB1 I can use 2, 3 or even 4 cables in series.

Does anyone know how I can overcome this? The router cannot be moved closer to the PC. The USB cables are the expensive ones with the power thingy on the end.

Thanks.

Re: Multiple USB Cables in Series

Theriological max length of a USB cable is only 14'.
It might be easier with a wireless repeater.

You may be able to boost the signal some with a powered hub.

Re: Multiple USB Cables in Series

Thanks for your fast help, guys, but signal loss is not the problem.

As I am using the cables with the power hub on the end, so they act like a repeater preventing signal degredation. I have used 3 or 4 (5 metre) cables before all in a row no problems with USB1.

The problem is with USB2. Only one cable works. As soon as I connect more than one cable in series, regardless of the length of the cables, the USB wifi adaptor does not work.

What's so special about USB2? USB1 on the older PC works fine, as many cables as i like.

Thanks.

Something like this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...29301&CatId=77 would do the trick.

Usb2 needs a better quality cable to go that far with loss.
