DVD-ROM has disappeared
I installed a new DVD-ROM several weeks ago as a slave and it was working fine. Today, I noticed that my system no longer knows that it exists. The device opens and closes, but won't show up in My Computer. Add/Remove Hardware also does not recognize the device.
Any help? Could Nero be the culprit? Copy an entire disk was the last action I remember doing before the ROM crapped out. System is a Win98 frankenstein. DVD-ROM is SONY DDU1621 |

The most likely cause I imagine is that the IDE cable has lost contact with the back of the drive. Check that it plugged in fully and is nice and secure.
Also check the BIOS for its presence |
