Please help with printer

Hi there

Averatec 3225HS laptop (Windows XP)
Inland USB to Parallel converter cable
HP Laserjet 2100tn printer

I needed the cable since my new laptop has no parallel port, and my older printer has no USB port.

The drivers on the cable's CD are for Windows 98/2000/ME and it says XP should be hot swappable(?). I configured the printer setup through XP like setting up any hardware.

My printer sometimes runs a few pages out normally, but sometimes flashes an EIO (printer in/out error) code. Sometimes it prints out dingbats instead of the page content. Sometimes it will start up but not cycle the paper through and flash a "paper jam" code - but there is no jam.

I can't figure out any patterns or connection as to what is wrong. Do I need a USB driver? Or a converter cable driver? Or a special driver from HP?

My cable was only $19 while most cost 2 or 3 times as much. Does that matter?

Any ideas? Thanks a lot

I would go ahead and spend a few more $ and just get a newprinter. You can get good ones cheaply. I got a lexmark z12 for $30.

Chek out the Inland web site, there are drivers to istall, it seems.

http://www.bencole.com

However, they are not online. There is a link in the download section to email for them.

Thanks!

I got info from Inland and the printer is working fine now. I just need to select a different printer icon (there's one for each USB port now) - no big deal.

I considered a new USB printer but nothing can really match my true 1200X1200 dpi laserjet, and replacing it would just be a step down in quality and expandability, and cost more in the long run.

Thanks for the tips guys
