Itunes alternative?

I am now the owner of a new ipod nano 2Gb. I have heard some unflattering things about itunes software hogging memory and slowing down computers. Does anyone know of a freeware alternative that would let me play ordinary mp3s on this thing?

Thanks, I'm going to check that out.

I also did quite a bit of digging on my own and since yesterday have been using the free program EPHPOD to load regular old mp3s into the nano.

www.ephpod.com

It says on the site it may not work properly with the new second generation nanos, but it's been working like a charm for me so far. But then again I haven't tried to do anything beyond loading and playing songs. Just one more possible alternative for itunes haters.

I was wary of the ipod at first because I didn't want to deal with DRM crap and have itunes rearranging things on my system, but now I quite enjoy using it, which makes the person who gave it to me on Christmas happy too.

Now to find out which mp3 download site is the best...........(hint,hint)

Just to throw my two cents in...

My roomate uses Foobar. It's freeware, simple, and supports many formats. Also, it could just be coincidence, but both my roommate and I think it actually sounds a bit better comming from Foobar rather than Itunes.
