Weird mp3 player problem.

I just got a Creative Zen-V for Christmas this morning, and the computer won't recognize that the mp3 player is connected. It'll let me transfer data to it (It lets you set aside a certain amount of memory to use for data.) but not music or photos. I also can't create playlists, delete the sample music, delete the sample photos, or do anything aside from transferring data files.

I've tried everything I can think off..re-installing the programs, re-installing the mp3 player, restarting the the computer, but none of it works. I was trying to get some help from a friend, and said to post a thread here to get help.

My System

I was setting up a Zen-V for my brother earlier today as it wasn't being recognised on his computer.

Unplug the USB cable from the computer. Install the software and drivers then reboot. When Windows has loaded, switch on the Zen-V and connect it using the USB cable. You should see a box in the bottom right saying the device has been recognised and is ready for use. Wait for the syncronisation to complete (if it is enabled). You should now be able to drag a music folder from your hard drive to the Zen-V in Windows Explorer.

Idea

But did you leave the mp3 player unplugged until AFTER installing the software ?
Well over 90% (IMHO) of usb devices should NEVER be connected until AFTER the software is installed, anyway have you tried downloading the software from creative as opposed to using the disk ? wouldn't be the first time a disk was corrupted, not to mention it's not always the newest release depending how long it was sitting on a shelf for.

But you confuse me over saying you can transfer data to it ? if the computer can't see it how can you ?
Unless your saying the software wont see it ?
In which case with the wifes zen micro photo it shows up under the "my computer" and if you double click on it you go into it like you would any other folder etc, simply go into the folder you want to add\delete files to\from and you can do it that way.

Yeah, I didn't even take it out of the box until it was done installing.

No, I haven't. I'll try it when I get home, I'm at a friend's place at the moment. And why would the shelf time have anything to do with it? The mp3 player was on the shelf the same amount of time, considering they were in the same box. So the software should work.

There's a "Removable Disk" option on the mp3 player. Which allows me to set aside a certain amount of memory to be used for storing data, sort of like a flash drive. When I turn the Removeable Disk option, it recognizes the mp3 as a storage device. But it won't, for whatever reason, recognize it as an mp3 player.

Yes, that's how it says with my Zen V. But when I open that it says "Your player is not connected. Connect your Zen V to the computer." even though it is connected to the computer.

I grabbed the CD from my house while we went out to get food earlier, and installed the drivers and software on my friends computer. When I connect it to the USB, I get a small message saying that the mp3 player has been connected. But when I open Media Player or Zen V Media Explorer, it says no device can be detected.

Cool

You would be surprised how long something may of been around since it's creation, and the disk will obviously have the software that was around at that time, and if there has been newer software released since it was made then it will obviously not have that as it wasn't around when that unit was built if you follow me.
It isn't a case of it not working as such, although corrupted disks are common in my experience, but newer software is there to fix bugs, so it's possibly it could be the reason for your problems, although not that likely in this case, but you never know, I just like having the latest software all the time.
