Hello all, new to this forum looks quite good.
I have just purchased a Sony CD-RW writer drive. It shares the IDE cable with my DVD drive and is the slave drive. Windows XP recognises it fine and can read from it. However when I burn to a disk (using Nero 6) it says burning etc and says completed with no problems. However the disk is still blank. It sometimes displays the error "CD write error" but not often. Anyone have any ideas / come across the problem of burning blank disks before? Thanks Steve |

try this:
when you choose to burn, it asks you which burner to use. normally, it wants to make a simulation first. you will have to make sure your sony burner is selected. if this doesnt help, let us know.

well, when it is simulating a burn, the light will blink, because what it is doing is checking to see if it can keep a steady stream of data going to the drive through an entire disk burn.
if this isnt your problem, then i have no clue... take the drive back. or try a different burning application.

No it's definitely not simulating it's trying to burn. Tried all kinds of different software and another CD writer drive but the same thing happens.
I think it's reformat hard drive time!! Any other ideas? Steve |

do you have another computer to test it in?
i doubt it's your machine. i suspect the burner is toast.
