Posting an issue for my friends comp
Sorry guys I dont have his comp stats right now, I can get them if needed. Its a 2yr old self build and the comp keeps shutting down. He placed the HD in another computer and it did the same thing, yet when he placed a working HD in his comp it would not boot also. I was thinking this was a mobo issue, but now I am suspecting both. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

Hi,
How often does it shut down? What kind of process is running when it shuts down? Have there been any hardware or software changes recently? Yes, we do need the specs and in the meantime, download and run the Sensorview program under my signature and post the results for the temps, the voltages, and the fan speeds on here. Try to test both at-rest and under-stress (like playing a game) for us. Post back with questions/concerns.

I would start the troubleshooting method real basic:
try booting with one stick of ram >>> if no go >>> try the other stick & so on try another PSU does the psu fan & cpu fan spin is all the dust cleaned outta the machine ???? reseat all ram & video cards etc if still no go then well go more drastic remove the motherboard from the case and do a bench test place the motherboard on a piece of cardboard insert one stick of ram video card key board & mouse no hard drives at this point your just looking for a bios screen use a precision screw driver or paper clip to jump the pins on the motherboard which are normally connected to the case on & off switch post back with results and observations my best guess with inadaquate info to back it up really is >>>> bad psu or overheating cpu (dust clogged cpu fan or dead cpu fan) edit****** sorry ignore the part about trying to get bios screen ; i see it does run but with shutdowns psu & or cpu fan is not running or dust clogged BTW: you cant move a boot drive from one computer to another and "boot" an OS from it. you can ! slave the drive from one computer to another and see and use the files but not boot from it >>>> unless the motherboard is the same model in both machines this is essentially what you are doing when you try to swap a boot drive from one computer to another one http://motherboard.windowsreinstall.com/
