Newly built PC having keyboard issues on boot

After finally getting round to replacing my motherboard in my computer I booted to install Windows. The install would get to the partition screen and would lock up, not responding to any keypresses, nor the keyboard lock lights being on. After a reset I tried poking around in the bios and fiddling with some options on the off chance something might happen but had no luck. In an attempt to actually be able to do something with my computer I downloaded Knoppix Live DVD which did work. On the boot menu I could type in options etc as needed, Linux loaded fine and I was able to use it. The first thing I tried was checking my media from my harddrives and everything was going fine until I went to type something and noticed the keyboard was again not working which leads me to suspect the Windows install isn't locking up but that something happens to the keyboard after POST.

My specs are:
Athlon64 3000+
Winfast nf4sk8aa mobo
1.5gig ram
ps/2 keyboard (other similar sounding problems seem to related to a usb keyboard so thought I'd mention this).
usb mouse

Also inspect the connector for any bent pins. If that doesn't work, simply try another keyboard to at least find out if that is the problem. If another PS/2 keyboard works, your keyboard is bad. If that doesn't work, try a USB keyboard. If that works, your PS/2 port is likely bad.

There's nothing that can happen to the keyboard after post except windows
or windows and the drive. Unless you have another input device there's no way to know if windows is still working

POST is a function of bios

Keyboard works in bios- bios hands off to cd rom and linux, keyboard works in linux

Or

Keyboard works in bios- bios hands off to cd rom and windows, keyboard doesn’t work in windows

Or

Keyboard works in bios- bios hands off to hard drive and windows, keyboard doesn’t work in windows

Process of elimination-Has to be windows or drive related- not the keyboard.

- how were you checking the hard drives ?
