No Display but Computer Stills Work

I am facing proble with my computer I am using P-III 733 mhz intel chipset, OS-Win XP. When i star my PC my monitor dosen't display any thing on screen it shows light when its inactive(mode). Four lights at CPU's back all respond in green. I have get fix this problem by unpuging monitor VGA cable & wait until windows is fully loaded & then pluge again the VGA cable of monitor. The thing i want to know is that what is actual problem & how unpluging the cable works.

Do you have another monitor you can try?
