help in picking the right size power supply

My son (bless his heart) made me a computer for Xmas year before last. I am wanting to upgrade the power suppy which is only 350 watts.

This is running an ASUS P4P800S-X Pentium 4/ Celeron mother board with an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card and 2Gig of Ram. this is all stuffed in a tower that is medium in size.

Now I read the wonderful article on power supplies but I need to know how to insure that I am getting the right size.

Would someone be kind enough to explain how I can pick one that will fit my machine?

Have read of this, it should give you all this info you need

oops, I see that you have already read it, so to answer your question, you will find that power supplies are made to a standard that should fit into any normal case

Hi MikeCroft,

I think Blackduck30 gave you good information about the size fitting in your case...they are pretty well standard for a case like yours.

If you are asking about size (watts), then we need more information. For example, are you planning on upgrading in the near future or what I am saying, are you going to purchase a supply that will kind of "upgrade proof" your unit, or are you just wanting something that will work with your present setup. There are more resonable supplies out there on that list that will do fine with your unit like a 500 watt Antec, or 535 Enermax, and the list goes on. If you are planning to upgrade the system in the near future, then you may want to move up to an Antec 550 or 600 watt of a major brand name that is on that list.

Post back with questions/concerns.

Thanks Guys and I will reread that article again, there was a ton of information there and I might have missed something.

I would like to keep this computer for a couple more years, so yes I am wanting to upgrade but i don;t want to keep so long that I will beating a dead horse.

hello:

this would be my first pick:

if this one is too pricey

then go to newegg and look for Antec SP-500 fro around $68.00

nothing cheaper though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or you will regret it

enjoy and dont hesitate to ask more questions
