Check and make sure there is nothing in the floppy drive, I once had this problem and found a credit card lodged in the drive

Hi,

After you deal with the information from dai and Doby, there are some other things that might help us to help you.

What hard drives do you have on the unit. List Sata or IDE, brand names, how they are set up with jumpers (for IDE), and where do you have them on the ribbon cable.

what i did was take out all the cd drives, floppy etc and then tried to attch the old and the new hard drives to it....it reconised it but it said read error has occured or NTLDR. when i attched just one hard drive it did reconise the hard drive, but still gave a NTDLR errror so i thought i will hav to format that hard drive so i tried to install one cd drive but then it reconised the cd drive but not the hard drive

it is a IDE Drive, i first use the hrd drive on the IDE one slot and the cd drive on the IDE2 slot....same promlem as above...i then swtch them around same problem...it slike the cd drive is reconised all the time but as sooon as the hard drive comes ion to the scene it messes up

so then i

More than 1 hard drive attached???

I get the same error when I leave my external USB hard drive powered up and restart my computer. I have never figured out why I get the NTLDR failure message.
If I turn off the external hard drive restart computer once windows has started turn external back on everything works OK.
Not sure if this applies to your situation just my experience.
Good Luck!!!

Hi,

Need clarification. dai had asked you if you had an OS installed and you said:
Quote:

Help us out with a couple of questions. Is this the computer you installed the OS with or did you install the OS on another computer? Second one, what is the brand name of this drive? Where do you have it hooked up on the ribbon cable? How are the jumpers set? Also, for example, what are you connecting to IDE #1...just list those drives, or if the new hard drive is alone on that cable, let us know.

i think we need to settle down into one scenario and work on that and not jump around quite as much now that you are getting help. We also do need the specs of the motherboard as suggested by the last poster.

I would suggest you use only the one drive, a CDRom, Floppy, and forget any external drives until you shake this problem out. Why not use only the new drive for now and we will see what can be done in that area first.

Post back with additional information.

Without this info, it is very difficult to offer assistance.
