Computer Problem, of course.
I've started to build my new computer and have run into a problem while trying to install the OS. My copy of XP is an upgrade so I first installed ME. The only problem is, it gives me trouble with doing the plug'n'play/hardware detection, and after setup is complete, it refuses to work.
Instead the computer boots up as far as the windows logo, before shutting down completely. I've tried this on two seperate computers and three seperate harddrives and I have no idea what the problem could be. Any help would be very highly appreciated. |

Are you having problems with the copy of xp, or with problems of plug and play devices...? If it is a problem with xp, then try to completely wipe the drive of ME by choosing to re-format the drive after inserting the xp boot disk and re-booting the system. If it is a problem with plug and play devices, try to see if there are any drivers online, or updates, or if the hardware came with drivers, install from the disk, not from the windows driver's

Boot with the XP disk in the drive, it will ask you for proof of an earlier verion so take out the XP and put in the ME disk it will read the disk and then ask for the xp disk again. Just follow the directions and you can format and choose partition (if any ) to install too. Xp should have most drivers but you will need to install your Mobo drivers from the disk that came with it
Any problems just post back

If you have access to another rig I would suggest downloading the latest chipset/graphics drivers etc so you can install up to date drivers from the off, rather than uninstalling old drivers then adding new ones.
Drivers that come with the hardware get old quick. Just a thought.
