Whiney Fan
In my headphones, and my microphone, a high-frequency ringing is heard behind all audio. I have determined it comes from my computer fan.
What can I do to minimize this noise? |

Hi,
If you think it is a fan, the first thing to do is get a can of air, and make sure all the dust bunnies are blown out of the fans, power supply, heatsink, and the general case and motherboard. Some times fans can whine when full of dust. That would be my first suggestion without having more information. That information might include where do you think (which fan) it is coming from, why do you think it is a fan, etc. etc?

I think I know what korcskru is talking about, because I used to have the problem myself.
Check to see if the cable that runs from sound card to CD drive isn't near any fans, if you have such a cable. That would be, I think electromagnetic or electrostatic interference; I don't remember which.

I know its my fan because if I put my ear closely up to it from the outside of my PC, I can hear it. Also, I just opened up my PC, cleaned it all out, and tried to push any cables away from fans etc. Same story.

Actually, this is the reason why I don't have this problem- I bought a Creative SB Value for 30 bucks and it went away.
