RAM - Not Detected

Hey, Well the problem is im trying to install more RAM... i currently have 2x256mb and am trying to install an extra 1gig (single stick)
Using Cpu-Z it says type: DDR Bandwidth: PC3200

So using that i went ahead and bought this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Yet when i insert the stick into the slot it is not recognised and computer still reads it as only 512mb. So i removed both 256mb and inserted the 1gig alone and then i get a constant beeping. As far as im aware by the details it should work, right? any ideas whats happening?
Thanks, Dymond.

Dymond, chauffeur2 got it right - you'll need to check out your motherboard's documentation to see for sure which RAM configurations are operative in your case. BTW, I haven't seen a lot of three-stick configurations that are functional.

Please read this: http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=75262

It sounds like you bought high density memory, when your motherboard can only support low density memory. Unfortunately, high density memory is characterized by cheap prices, but if it's not supported, then you'll only see half of the memory. If you really want to add 1GB, you'll have to look for a new stick.

You also might want to see if your MB will even support a 1GB stick. Some boards will only top out at 512MB per slot.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 and using Sisoft Sandra i got these for mobo:
Manufacturer: Dell Corp.
Model: 0M2035

My memory controller says i can have a max. of 4gb ram over 4 slots (so 1gb per slot)
Ive also tried all combinations of using the 1gb alone and switching slots with the 256's to no avail. As for what Ralck said i suppose that is a possibility but ot doesnt give me like half the memory (i would actually be happy with that because i cant be fussed with returning it through ebay) it just dont get added as if it wasnt there at all.

Here is the ebay link, noticed the first wasnt working.

The Dell 8300 uses a motherboard with an Intel 865 chipset. The original configuration is in dual channel mode. To add the 1 gig stick or use the 1 gig stick alone, you may need to go into the BIOS and set it up for single channel mode. It would have probably been better to get a dual channel kit.

I went into bios and then into memory but it wouldnt let me switch to single, so i remove one of the 256's and put the 1gig in another slot, which changed it to single. When i started up the computer again it said i only had 256mb .... anyone else got any ideas?

Sounds like the 1GB stick is either defective or not compatible.

In the ebay listing of the second link you provided us with, it does indeed list the RAM as High Density. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be 100% compatible with your motherboard and you will only be able to use 512MB of the stick.

I would agree with others, get another dual channel kit. 3 RAM sticks tend to cause headaches. I here is a 2 x 512 MB kit that will bring your total RAM up to 1.5 GB the same as the other stick would of.

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory
