Getting around severs drop out times during long downloads?

Hay folks, Got a problem;
I have been trying get some information downloaded from some of the program everyone has been trying to help me get and learn, How-some-ever, while getting the infor, the severs time me out due to supposely no activity on the net and drop me out, henceforth I lose the download and have to start over! Rats!!!
I have been told by netzero that there is programs out there that have the ability to increase download speed, hence reducing download time and can resume downloads even if they drop out or can provent net drop out times so to complete long downloads.
Question; if they exist> what are some good once?
Are they safe?
Can they speed downloads using dialup Hi-speed?

You folks got any good ideas?????????

God Bless Y'all. DC

FlashGet download manager
Quote:
FlashGet is specifically designed to address two of the biggest problems when downloading files: Speed and management of downloaded files.

If you've ever waited forever for your files to download from a slow connection, or been cut off mid-way through a download - or just can't keep track of your ever-growing downloads - FlashGet is for you.

FlashGet can split downloaded files into sections, downloading each section simultaneously, for an increase in downloading speed from 100% to 500%. This, coupled with FlashGet's powerful and easy-to-use management features, helps you take control of your downloads like never before.
And if you're using Firefox, install the FlashGot extension for easier use.

Koala, Got a quick question to ask you, in referance to my installing Flashget I downloaded it from "www.Flashget.com" no problem. My Nortons though ask me to " allow it to DNS to all ports" not being a dummy here but what is it tell me?

I don't use Norton, so I'm not sure about its setup. Download managers only need port 80 (HTTP for browser downloads) and 443 (HTTPS for secure websites) open to allow you to download files. Hang on for some more replies about allowing DNS.
