Doomsday Scenario - diagnostic help needed
I left my computer on overnight. I woke up this morning to a monitor screen that says "no signal input" but the computer power light is still on.
I unplugged and restarted the computer. When pressed, the green power light comes on, but then nothing happens. The fan does not start, the hard drive is silent, and the monitor reads "no signal input". I have already tried some basic stuff related to power supply. I plugged into a different outlet, used a different cable, etc. When I open the tower, I can see a green LED on the motherboard that comes on when the computer is turned on. I don't see any loose wires, and I am thinking because that LED comes on that the power supply is intact. Is my hard drive toasted? What should I do? About a week prior, I had a similar problem of waking up to a "no signal input" screen. However, when I restarted the computer it booted up and I had to start in safe mode and system restore to get it to start up in normal mode consistently. I haven't experienced any other weird stuff except for that. No crashes, no blue screens, no memory failures [the kind of stuff I would expect if my HD was dying]. The computer was bought from gateway about 4 yrs ago and has been on almost constantly since then. I upgraded the RAM, Soundcard, and DVD burners since then, but that's about it. |
