Static Sound Problems
Not exactly sure where to post this as i have no idea whats the problem, sorry if this is the wrong forum =).
Anyway, onto my problem: Whenever i play any type of videogame i get a weird static/crackling sound from my headphones, its fairly loud, and i've tried a various amount of fixes: 1. Upgrading and downgrading sound drivers 2. Upgrading DirectX 3. Turning down and turning off DirectSound 4. Muting Line-In's and Microphone, as well as other useless outputs. 5. Turning down volume 6. In-game fixes including reverting to software sound/turning down sound and even MUTING ALL ingame sound. What's weird that the problem persists even though all in-game sound is muted, if the static/crackling was lower in volume i could probably tolerate it but its ridiculously loud, and only happens in video-games. Every other sound related program i.e. videos, etc. seem to work perfectly. Quick comp. stats: Intel P4 2.53 Ghz 1 GB DDR400 RAM Asus P4S800 Mobo (Using the onboard sound, SoundMAX driver) Windows XP SP2 Thanks for any assistance! welcome
try running the game with the side off and a floor fan blowing in to try and eliminate heat as a cause. recheck the device manager for any yellow conflict alerts while your there, click view, then click show hidden devices. what antivirus/malware are you using? post back |

Thanks =).
1. As far as heat management i think im okay with it, i use to have overheating problems but i've fixed that and my case has been relatively cool since. 2. No alerts in my device manager. 3. I don't actively run a antivirus program, but rather try to keep my PC as safe as possible by scanning files i download and running online checks, but when i do have a problem i use AntiVir, HiJackThis and a few spyware cleaners. Appreciate the help! |

Re: Static Sound Problems
I actually funny enough have the exact same problem. i think it is a fan somewhere on the pc. About 2 or 3 years ago my house was broken into and my pc was stolen, but at the time i had about 14 fans including power supply fans all over ... i slowly eliminated the fans and found it was the one my power supply. I tried so solve the problem by fixing the fan .. my advise from personal experience is if its a fan causing the issue it would be best to get a new fan and avoid self diy fixes unless you really know what you doing. the interference i had from this fan also funny enough affected my picture when i was recording pvr off my tv card but only affected it when i hit the record button, which was annoying because i only record what i want to watch and its **** with a big strip in front of it.
my question i have is do you think it could be because of using multiplugs for power points that could cause interfierence? only strange thing is what i am experiencing now is with no music or any games running i hear silence, but if i use my mouse to scroll i hear the static, if i run a game i hear the static if i scroll up and down i hear it even hovering my mouse over my shortcuts on my task bar i hear it too. i dont think its the mouse, but i could be mistaken. i saw one post on the world of warcraft forum with another guy who has the same problem, but when i was using ventrilo in the past i never had the guys on the other side tell me it sounded like i was speaking inside a helicopter. the only upgrade i did since then was the graphic card i got. XFX GTX260 896 MB memory 446 bit rate. opteron 146 socket 939 cpu on a NF4SK8AA motherboard 4 GB memory ive switched all the units around my pc off including my tvs and so forth nothing helps i checked all the plugs i unplugged all my speaker plugs and left just my headset in. it happens on my normal sound as well. i had one fan making a wierd sound of 2 hums in 3 second cycle.. i took it out no change and unplugged the others. If anyone can find a solution to both my pc problem and my rambling on about it .... |
