telephone cord into ups or serge protector

Just got dsl yesterday and want to protect my modem from being fried from the phone cord.. which is better to use for this- ups or serge protector?

the UPS unit is so much better at protecting electricial devices than the surge protector, that i'd imagine it would be the first choice for the phone line as well. what is the UPS make model?

This depends on the amount of surge protection being provided by each device. The UPS unit will not necessarily provide better surge protection. Check the specs for each and whichever provides the greater amount of joules of surge suppression is your better choice.
