type of cables

Is the type of cable used for the motherboard (from motherboard to electricity) the same type of cable used for monitor (from monitor to electricity)? Is it ok to switch them?

if you mean the one that plugs into the power supply in the back, and goes to the wall, yes, that is the same as the one that goes from the monitor to the wall.

well, 99.9% of the time it is.

Yes, thats the standard connector. Since its just a connector and not an adapter, you can interchange them as long as it fits into the socket.

i also wanted to add that you will find these cords on TONS of equipment, such as:

computers
monitors
printers
scanners/fax machines
guitar amplifiers
audio/video equipment (high power)
benchtop multimeters and oscilliscopes
hostpital equipment
electric typwriters
some laptop power packs connect to the wall with these (older ones)
some power tools (i have a drill that uses one)
some electric heaters
some kitchen appliances

what that means is that any hardware/electronics/variety store should have them, and they are like 4 dollars or less.

now, you will notice they tend to vary, in legth color and thickness. it's best to always use one that is the right length, but for most things, thickness doesn't matter, as they are all 15 amp rated cords.
