Novice Downloading problem??

Year ago, bought an AMD GQ 6084 Athlon 2600+ from Fry's over internet. Found that I could not Download Windows XP Pack 2. Always during the downloading process PC would crash and could not start it back-up for at least a 1/2 hour. Had Fry's replace the PC. Second one does exactly the same thing. Far from an expert, but suspect some sort of Driver problem. Appreciate any input!!!:
