Pencil Discuss my Newegg.com wishlist

ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail ............ $92.99
http://tinyurl.com/djgl2

eVGA 256-P2-N563-AX Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail ............. $289.00

Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 ATX12V 430W Power Supply - Retail ............. $64.99

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA3800BVBOX - Retail ............. $297.00
http://tinyurl.com/bojza

Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM .............. $46.99
http://tinyurl.com/lrled

ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 19" 2ms LCD Monitor - Retail .............. $269.99
http://tinyurl.com/ntu3h

ZALMAN VF900 – CU 2 Ball VGA Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail ............. $43.99

ZALMAN CNPS7700-ALCU 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail ............... $38.99

NOTES:

- The WD caviar will complement my current 80gb so i can raid them..... unless you all know of a deal exceeding 160gb that is < $46.99

- I realize some of those fans are huge. Will they fit in my mid atx case? http://tinyurl.com/dhmpy

- Are the Zalman fans necessary if I do not plan to overclock? I've heard mixed reviews about whether or not the 7900GT and X2 3800 are noisy little beasts. I would prefer quieter and cooler but I don't know if that justifies 2x $40 fans.

- Will a 430 psu be sufficient to run all the new hardware?

- I've got 2x 512mb corsair ram. Will they bottleneck this purchase?

- I'm satisfied with the A8N-E's integrated sound

- The total is $1,143.94.......... ouch.

Nice Board if you don't need sli!

eVGA 256-P2-N563-AX Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail ............. $289.00
http://tinyurl.com/mnn7r

Another good choice and an excellent card IMHO!

Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 ATX12V 430W Power Supply - Retail ............. $64.99
http://tinyurl.com/ncjd3

Not powerful enough for the unit you are looking at. You need to be looking at a 550+ Enermax, Seasonic, OCZ, or an Antec (not the Neo models). Get the two fan models. This is the heart of your computer, spend your money here or spend it later for possible damaged components IMHO.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA3800BVBOX - Retail ............. $297.00
http://tinyurl.com/bojza

Great CPU. However, if you are mainly into gaming, you might want to consider a San Diego 3700+ or a Venice core of approximately that speed. The Venice core is one of the best to overclock. Both these suggestions do better in games and cost less money. If you are mainly into dual applications, then stay with the dual core units. They wil outperform the ones I mentioned in multiple applications.

Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM .............. $46.99
http://tinyurl.com/lrled

The WD Sata drives are very nice and work well with a good warranty.

ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 19" 2ms LCD Monitor - Retail .............. $269.99
http://tinyurl.com/ntu3h

Nice Unit and should do the job for you.

ZALMAN VF900 – CU 2 Ball VGA Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail ............. $43.99
http://tinyurl.com/nfamx

If you use the standard CPU and not the dual core, you won't need this unless you are into overclocking. The standard unit does a nice job. For example, my 3700+ San Diego is presently sitting here with a stock fan and the CPU is displaying 29c. That is pretty decent as temps go.

ZALMAN CNPS7700-ALCU 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail ............... $38.99
http://tinyurl.com/rt725

Those are nice. What I like are the 120mm Antec 3 speed fans. Find what you want, set them and cut the noise if you can get by with a slower speed. That is just a personal opinion.....the Zalman are of course very excellent quality and maybe even a better fan than the Antec ones. The Antec fans are much more resonable in price and are whisper quiet on the slow speed. I run mine with this computer on the slowest speed all the time and it is cool as a spring breeze.

Corsair is excellent ram, and if on the A8N-E's QVL list, then it will do a nice job for you. If not on the QVL list, then find some that is, because this is risky using ram that has not been approved by ASUS.

- I'm satisfied with the A8N-E's integrated sound

The sound on this board is just fine.

- The total is $1,143.94.......... ouch.

For that setup (especially with the SATA and GeForce), I would go with a 500W PSU just to make sure you don't go short on power.

one thing i am worried about is case. it doesnt look like it has very good airflow. i reccomend 3 case fans (2 pushing out, 1 pulling in) for every case. mine has 5, but you dont want that many. as for psu, great brand, bad watts. get the 500+ of that series and you will be ready for some kick @ss gaming

Good picks all around! As the others have said, a 500+ watt PSU will be about the only thing else you need to complete this beast.

Also, overclocking is by far the fastest way to kill a warranty. I don't suggest doing it at all.

Over priced. You can find better boards for this price. And nforce chipsets are offering a lot but they are buggy

real good card i would rather BFG brand

Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 ATX12V 430W Power Supply - Retail ............. $64.99
http://tinyurl.com/ncjd3

Get the true power II 550W one

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA3800BVBOX - Retail ............. $297.00

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ is only $60 more expensive. It would be my pick.

Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM .............. $46.99
http://tinyurl.com/lrled

WD is great choice. 80gb might not suffice your needs in the future.

ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 19" 2ms LCD Monitor - Retail .............. $269.99
http://tinyurl.com/ntu3h

Hyundais are more reliable. Almost the same price...

ZALMAN VF900 – CU 2 Ball VGA Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail ............. $43.99
http://tinyurl.com/nfamx

Nice. Make sure rest of the cooling is well planned. If you set the cooling well you dont need a fancy heatsink

Any case suggestions with good airflow? I don't know the first thing about cooling except to buy Zalman. I don't plan on overclocking but these new cards will make my current case temperature much warmer.

Am I the only one who thinks 2ms on a 19" lcd is a little low? I'm thinking it might have been listed wrong and should be 12ms?
