DVD player... or no DVD player...

Hi guys,

No time reader, first time poster here! ;-)

I have a question about my dvd drive. I recently used the windows XP recovery disc that came with my pc, to reinstall windows.

Since then, I've had big problems with my dvd drive. Basically, if I enter safe mode then it lets me view the files on a cd or dvd, and I can run a program such as an install program, but will complain about not being able to complete the oporation and quit the program.

If I try to use it in normal mode, then it recognises that a cd is in the drive as the cd title appears in My Computer, but with no icon. And you cant access the cd at all.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers and letting them reinstall upon startup (it doesnt tell me its doing this), but with the same results.

Any ideas?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Matt

have you checked the drive in Device Manager to see if there are any yellow conflicts? Do you have the original software disc that came with the drive? It may have the necessary files. Otherwise I would check the manufacturers web site for updated drivers, software, and / or firmware.

Welcome to the forum!

One thing that could be an issue is chipset drivers. See if you can update those and if you don't know how, post your motherboard model number and we will tell you how.
