asus p4c800 questions..

i just bought the p4c800 board with the p4 2.6c and with 2 sticks of the corsair xms 256mb pc3200..

video card: bfg ti4200 128mb
power supply: 350 watts
sound: sound blaster live 5.1 platium.

i have a linksys lan card.. which do you think i should use? the integrated 3com or the linksys lan card?

so.. i was wondering.. when i get everything installed..what should i do first??

update the bios -then-> reformat?

will my 350watt ps be enough?

should i stick with the stock bios or should i upgrade?

is the new bios safe to upgrade?

thanks in advance.

Hey boaluva,

The 1011 work geat for me and were the best so far. The 1014 just came out but after the 1013 mess I'm waiting to see if anything pops up in the forums before I load them ... I have a feeling though these will be alright.

No need to rush unless you have to.

You have the 1009 in right now out of the box?

Don't be surprised if you need to boost your memory voltage to 2.75V for your Corsairs. Don't know what O/S you plan to run or what you plan to use your PC for, but consider 1GB might provide a more satisfying experience than your 512MB.

Both would be PCI, so why burn a slot if you don't need to? Start with the integrated LAN and see how it goes.

Don't install everything... at least leave the soundblaster out for the initial install, and disconnect all HDD's you won't be installing your O/S to. After the initial install you should first install the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, followed by other downloaded Asus drivers, your video driver, then firewall & virus protection, etc.. Then add the additional devices and any drivers they require. There's a LOT more to it, and as many recommended order's as there are builders.

Probably not. 330-350 is the very bottom end of our recommended range. You didn't tell us about your peripherals. But unless you have only one HDD and one CD device, you should up this to a 480W (eg. Antec True480) or higher. Whatever PS you use also has to be ATX12V compatible.

Don't update BIOS until everything is confirmed working OK. The O/S setup should take care of any reformatting needed.

Don't know yet. P4C800 is the oldest model in the series, so it could come with any version on it, all the way back to 1004! Perhaps it could benefit from at least some upgrade, maybe 1011 as clayman suggested.

Hope this helps,

-clintfan

HT will be enabled in BIOS by default. If your CPU doesn't support it, there won't even be a place to set it, otherwise it will initially be on.
