BIOS 2+ years old

I recently ran AIDA32 for the first time (Thanks, again Johnwill), and one of the things it said was that my BIOS was over two years old, and I should upgrade.

Well, I was about to embark on a research project about why I should upgrade my BIOS when I'm perfectly happy now, when I thought, "I bet a lot of folks might have this question."

So I am bringing the question to the TSF experts...Why upgrade my BIOS? What's the advantage? What are the risks?

You should only upgrade the BIOS if there is some specific feature you want or a problem you're trying to solve. More than one person has rendered their system inert by having a problem during the upgrade and ending up with a deaf and dump motherboard.

Look at the release notes for the upgraded BIOS and see if anything rings a bell. :)

If you update your BIOS, then you might be able to upgrade to a faster processor, high bus speeds for your memory (ram). And it will fix any problems:D

Of course, we can't provide you with specific advice without knowing anything about your system. Knowing the motherboard and your current BIOS version or date would be quite useful. Perhaps with your particular motherboard, a BIOS update would be very important to prevent future problems. We have no way of knowing without the information, though.

Would a psychic like to help us out here? LOL

If you not having issues, I wouldn't upgrade. The suggestion to read the release notes is a good one though.

What can go wrong? Just look at this post

Since he doesn't say he's having any problems, and he didn't mention any desired processor upgrades, IMO it's pretty stupid to tinker with the BIOS! There really isn't anything to be gained, and you can only cause yourself grief. This seems like a no-brainer to me.
