when i boot into dos
the cd rom works i can copy and run files off of it i'd say that means it works, right? i just tried another almost brand new 350watt power supply too kept reading a bunch of stuff on the mup.sys error that was saying things along the lines of it being a power supply problem and what not.. so figured i'd try it.. still getting the same errors though =( and even if i can't get the xp setup to run through boot disks we're just making more problems for us to solve why am i getting the CMOS checksum error? why is it freezing at mup.sys when i try booting into windows? if i wasn't getting the cmos checksum error, i could just boot from the cd.. then all would be well.. so why don't we focus on fixing that? i'm sorry if you've got a plan, it just seems to me that if i fix that problem, then the others will all start comming together.. |

it does not matter how new a power supply is,it is how many amps it is capable of putting out
current day computers require a min of 18a on the 12v line for an agp system and a lot more for sli

on the old mobo
yeah i had a few power outages before all of this happened but now i'm dealing with the new mobo i haven't had any power outages yet this error was here when i first put this mobo in replacing the battery i've tried and i've shut it on and off numerous times it still isn't booting so those two solutions didn't work for me.. should i try buying another brand new battery? the first component to get damaged in that situation is the power supply, although it may appear to power up it does not mean there is sufficient power to run the computer
to swap another supply in,it needs to be putting out suffient amps or it will be the same as the one you just took out to test you need one that is a quality build and pushing out 18a on the 12v line running just the basic componants at startup is to eliminate them from the equasion, they have very little effect on the power required to start the computer successfully

the power supply i tried last night says 20a under the 12v
so i'm guessing it should've done the trick if the power supply was the problem ? later i'll be going to walmart, should i perhaps invest in "renting" a power supply? buying one and returning it later if it doesn't work ? :D figured i'd buy another cmos battery while i was there too since they're cheap, just incase that was the problem.. |

i'm going to ask a friend of the family that's a computer engineer if he has any last suggestions before i return it.. i'm just hoping that it'll work once i RMA it.. if not i'm out of ideas.. guess all that's left is to take it somewhere and see if anyone can do something with it haha.. |
