XP pro installation from hell...
did copious reading about installing XP pro (full) then tried to do so a few hours ago... my system will boot from the cd...
so i got to the installation part ok... got to Read and accept the licensing agreement and pressed F8 to accept it... so far so good... however, i was never prompted to do a full (clean?) install?! my only options was C: partition new 4087mb I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS PARTION STUFF. i want to completely REFORMAT my C: drive and install XP pro FULL! no such luck... i now have both XP and the old windows 2000 on my c: drive... as i see it what i'm trying to do is FDISK drive C then clean install XP pro? any ideas how i can get this windows MONKEY to work? thanks for any enlightenment... p4tmemory |

Dont panic :)
On the partition screen chose the partition and hit D to delete. L and enter. Then when everything is deleted hit enter. And format screen will come up. Pick one ( i usually use the quick ntfs ) then the fresh installation will take place. |

I fixed it!
checked device manager and found a yellow question mark beside ethernet controller... missing driver double clicked the hardware and was asked to update the driver by putting the installation cd in for that hardware... did so... and BELIEVE IT OR NOT windows XP found the driver and installed it... hard to believe isn't it? thanks for bearing with me... p4tmemory |
