Simple question
I was wondering about something. I have an asus p4t-e mobo, which has a 400mhz bus, but it also says "Fine adjustments of system-bus-frequency up to 133MHz". so does that mean I can use cpus that are made for the 533mhz bus on this mobo?
here is a link to it: http://usa.asus.com/mb/socket478/p4t-e/overview.htm Thanks |

You can use P4's up to and maybe even a wisker past 2.4 mhz. The up to 133mhz is an incremental overclocking setting / you can step things up with increases as much as 133 additional mhz / but i doubt that a max overclock would deliver stable results. You could use a 533mhz bus speed processor / it will just step down to meet the abilities of your system. If you are able to sustain a 20% overclock with out undue stress on your system or overheating things you will have done well !!! 10 & 15% are more common.
you may well be able to achieve 460 to 480 bus speeds what CPU are you running now ????? Most of the time upgrading intel cpu's to the highest level a mobo can use isnt worth the investment compared to the gains of what you were using ??? But then again we dont know what is the existing cpu?? maybe if you could find a 2.4 or 2.6 533mhz super cheap or given to you / then yeah Git er done!! regards joe

hmmm
I am not sure if that board will run a 2.8 / most of the time the mobo manufactuer will extend the life of the board (bios upgrade)by maybe one processor build but i doubt two / generally speaking your not going to see any big diff from a 2.0 to 2.8 unless you can also change the bus speed dramitically or cpu speed dramatically. I personally would not spend more than $40.00 to play with such an upgrade. Besides the board and cpu you are using isnt that out of date / what are you looking to really improve gaming or applications ????? if its gaming than a video card upgrade will accomplish that !! for the sake of discussion look into the re-selling value of your cpu vs the cost of the 2.6 or fingers crossed 2.8 / you may be able to sell yours then buy the upgrade and still only have 40.00 invested ??!! ebay good luck joe

Frankly, its not worth the hassle. The extra 800mhz won't make any visible difference. if I benchmark, then maybe, but realistically, there is no point.
I'll just stick with this until Longhorn comes out, and then get a dual core 64bit beast. |
