Need Help - PENTIUM III CPU QUESTION
Hi to Everybody - recently I bought on Ebay used Dell Mobo with pentium III CPU. The seller claims it was working. After the package arrived I inspected the whole thing carefully. I noticed that mobo was configured for the speed of 266 MGHZ. To make my story short - IS IT POSSIBLE THAT PENTIUM III CPU might have speed of 266MGHZ????. I suspect that the seller tested the mobo with PENTIUM II (IF EVER) and now he is trying to sell that stuff as working with PENTIUM III. Pls HELP !!! I might be wrong and HE - the SELLER might be right - I do not want to hurt him posting a negative feedback. Thank You - I would appreciate Your HELP

hmm, is it possible that it's 266 mhz fsb?
fsb and host clock are a little different. the 266 comes from the system bus being set at 133 mhz. for example, my machine has a bus clock of 145 mhz... and it shows up as 290. yet, it's running the cpu at 11 times that, or 1595mhz. (145x11=1595) so, it is still possible that this board isn't set up for an actual 266mhz cpu.

Check the numbers on the CPU. They will tell you the speed, cache memory size and the FSB speed. On Slot1 its on the edge of the CPU and on socket 370 it will be right below the die. Plus it will tell you if it is a PII or PIII.
You may have to go into the BIOS and manually configure the speed. |
