i add fans when there is a heat problem.
although, it is generally accepted that an exhaust fan in the top rear of the tower is a good thing, so if your tower has a place for one there, put one there.

good question...
however, some have theorised that with more fans blowing in, the atmosperic pressure changes the magnetism and causes the dust in the air to become charged positively, and makes for more of a dust problem. as to the question of is this true or not? i have no clue, but it's a general rule i've followed as well. also, as others have pointed out, there is usually a better result from fans drawing air out of the case. many times a side inlet fan, or front inlet fan can actually raise temps.

Then i must be a follower of the "other theory" (LOL) - which states that keeping a confined space at positive pressure (most fans blowing in than out - which of course is a little simplified) helps to draw dust out. I must not be alone with this because i've seen it done in military (radar) installations aswell as scientific (electronics/ astronomy) and medical.

well, only some video cards are going to have the sensor in there.
on my computer, speedfan brings me back 4 temps; CPU, GPU, NorthBridge, and one that i cannot identify, but doesnt change. i found out which was which by aiming an air gun around at certain parts of my machine while it was loaded down and with my temp display open. other than that, i don't know what to suggest.

Wow
All this bickering. What are you using this computer for? Sounds to me like it is a goming computer. Go with the AMD. Like I read in a message above the Clock speed does not matter. The memory controller is intagrated on the CPU it self so it does not have to make that hop. Which in all reality makes the frontside bus twice as fast. i.e. 800 FSB (intel) to 1600 FSB (AMD 64) which is important.

no, not air gun like bb gun, air gun like a blow gun, that blows air at things.
(basically a fan with an aiming tube attached) you point it at your video card, and watch for a heat sensor to drop. then, you know that sensor is your video card. you point it at your northbridge chip, and then you know what sensor is the northbridge. i cant think of a simpler way to tell which temp reading goes to what device.
